For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord
Happy Summer! Summer is my favorite season! I enjoy long days, lots of sunlight, and no coats! It also reminds me of the 13 summers I spent working for Child Evangelism Fellowship at Good News Camp in Waynesboro. We hosted over 1000 campers during the summer where they enjoyed Bible lessons, memory verses, missionaries, boating, swimming, and eating snocones. The camp that I attended as a camper continues to provide blessings and fun to children today.
When I eventually made the leap into real estate, I saw my work as ministry. The passion to serve people was given to me by my parents. My father was a pastor, and my mother was a schoolteacher. They raised us in a home where service to others was a way of life. I wanted to be not just a Realtor, but a trusted friend during one of life’s biggest transitions. However, the path wasn’t always easy. Early on, I faced the challenge of building trust in a new field, learning the ropes, and weathering the ups and downs of the market. There were moments of doubt, but I leaned on the lessons I’d learned in ministry: trust God, and serve others.
The fact that God’s ways are not our ways was brought home to Elyse and I recently. In December my 24-year-old stepson, Gavin, passed away unexpectedly. Gavin had autism and, in recent years, began experiencing seizures. Despite medication, one day he didn’t recover from a seizure.
His loss left an empty space in our hearts that won’t be filled until heaven. Elyse and I have leaned heavily on our faith, friends, and Scripture trusting that Gavin is now perfect and at peace in heaven, and we will see him again. We miss him but we find joy in remembering: Gavin’s faith, love for music, puzzles, and the joy he brought to our lives.
Elyse is celebrating a new beginning. She recently started a new role as a Ministry Relations Manager with Joni and Friends, a worldwide ministry serving people with disabilities. She will attend five weeks of camp for people with disabilities and provide training to churches on how to have ministries for disabled people. She has a passion for this ministry and is eager to make a spiritual impact on families.
As for me, I continue to pursue running and cycling. I’ve been a runner for over 21 years and often train for a century ride at the end of the summer. I also enjoy reading—especially history and biographies. Elyse and I enjoy exploring national parks and, as empty nesters, are always on the lookout for our next adventure.
Through it all, God continues to show Himself faithful to provide and give direction for life. We praise Him for the faithful impact of so many friends on our lives and pray we can be a lasting blessing in return.
I've been a REALTOR® for more than 20 years, and during that time, I've enjoyed working with residential buyers and sellers, from seniors and first-time homebuyers to investors. As a full-time agent, my clients have my commitment to do what is best for them.
My goal is to serve my clients, even if that means advising against a sale that is not in their best interests. Honesty is central to how I work. I take the responsibility of representing my clients seriously, ensuring I act with care.
To me, the relationship with the client is extremely important. I consider my clients friends, and I stay in contact because I care about their lives. I treat clients with the same attention I would give my family.
